Self-care and You
Self-care is more than a series of behaviors that simply make you feel better. Self-care is a lifestyle in which you actively engage in activities and routines that value your health and well-being.
Remember, well-being encompasses all of you as it is multidimensional. Your well-being includes your psychological, emotional, physical, social, financial, vocational, spiritual, and intellectual health. Self-care is personal and meets your specific individual needs.
Self-care behaviors may differ due to the season, location, and accessibility. Some may prefer to walk during daylight savings hours. Some may choose to participate in group activities during the colder months. Others may choose to schedule time in their weekly routine to read, sing, garden, meditate, take a nap, and/or get a massage.
Adopting self-care as a lifestyle supports you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Self-care tools dramatically increase quality of life , reduce stress and anxiety, allow the body and mind to rest and repair for greater functioning, and improve mood and mindset. When faced with or recovering from adverse situations or when you need time to readjust and gain more energy these self-care tools strengthen your resilience.
Self-care is a choice and self-care behaviors increase your well-being.
